Passed Indian School Certificate Examination from St. Columbia’s High School, Delhi in 1974 with 81% marks, securing 95% marks in English Literature.
Topped Delhi University in BA (Hons) Economics from St. Stephen’s College for two successive years namely 1976 & 1977 and secured second rank in BA (Hons) Economics with an aggregate of 67% in Delhi University in 1978.
On the basis of Delhi University rank, awarded scholarship for Masters study of Economics in Delhi University . Selected for MBA at IIM Ahmedabad and successfully completed the programme in 1980 with specialization in Marketing.
Did Bachelor of Law in 1994 while in Government of Delhi.

Worked as Management Trainee in Procter & Gamble in 1980-81.

Worked as Sr. Marketing Officer in Associated Cement Companies Ltd. (ACC), Bombay , in 1983.
In Indian Government:
Worked as Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Delhi from 1985 to 1987. Also functioned as Deputy Director (Panchayat) and Administrator of Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee of Najafgarh and Narela.
Served as a Joint Secretary, Planning & Development in the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for 16 months in 1987-88.
Worked as Deputy Commissioner in the Lower Subansiri District in 1988-89. Was Chairman of District Rural
Development Agency and also functioned as District & Session Judge during this time.
Was Secretary, General Administration, Personnel, Labour & Press in 1990 in Arunachal.
Served as Joint Secretary (Health) in Delhi Administration in 1990-91. Was as Addl. Commissioner, Sales Tax in Delhi from 1991-94. Also served as Director, Chit Funds as an additional charge.

(Education) in the Government of Delhi from September 1994 till May 1995.
